Shirley Renfroe
6th Grade

/files/Staff Folder/elementary/IMG_2273.JPGI  was born in Chicago, Illinois and moved to Alabama after high school.  I began at Brewer State Junior College in Fayette, where I was president of the drama club.  The president of the college told me I should pursue a career on Broadway, but I knew God had other plans for me.  I graduated from Brewer in 1979 and married Jimmy Renfroe that same year.  My daughter Shelly was born two years later and I went back to school when she was 3 years old.  I did my student teaching at Walker Elementary.  In December 1986 I graduated from the University of Alabama with honors and a BS in Elementary Education.  Robin was born in March 1987.  My third daughter, Brittnay was born in September, 1992.

I began teaching at ACA in August of 1987. I love to teach because that is what God has called me to do. I want to reach my students on their level and to make Bible, History and Art come alive. I have taught Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades at ACA.  I student taught in public school in the 5th grade.  This year will be my 13th year in 6th grade.  That will mean I have gone to Washington, DC thirteen times! When we get close to November,  I get more excited than my students.

I have three daughters. My oldest daughter is Shelly.
She graduated from ACA in 1999. She is married and has two sons.  Hunter is six years old and will be in the first grade at ACA.  Noah is three years old.  I am not a typical "Nana," but they are both geniuses.   Shelly will coach JV volleyball and be the assistant coach on the varsity team.  My daughter Robin graduated from ACA and then went on to receive her teaching degree in 2009.  She will begin her second year teaching high school at ACA and being the head volleyball coach.  My youngest daughter is Brittnay.  She will be a senior at ACA and has been here since she was six weeks old.  I will need a lot of prayers this year as God begins preparing my husband and I for the empty nest syndrome.

The Lord has blessed me with two wonderful families, my family at home and my family at ACA.
