Middle School Accelerated Reading

Accelerated Reading begins in 1st grade at ACA and is continued until 8th grade for most students. Points do not start "rolling over" into the following term until 3rd grade, however, AR points do NOT roll over into the next school year for any grade.

The AR grade for students in Grades 6-8 is averaged each 9-week term into their English class as a test grade. Students are required to accumulate 30 points in each 9-week period in order to receive 100% as one test grade in their English Class. If the students stick to this goal of 30 points per each 9 weeks, they will reach the goal of 120 AR points by the end of the year! All “extra” points do roll over from term to term. Points do not roll over from year to year. Students may begin reading and taking AR points during the summer before the school year begins and those points will be rolled over into the school year.

MS AR Goals for the end of each term:

1st 9-week Term – 30 points

2nd 9-week Term –60 points

3rd 9-week Term – 90 points

4th 9-week Term – 120 points

See the AR Home Connect Tab for accessing a student's account from home. All tests are taken at school from the school's network.

AR Grades

The grade you see on FACTS is a “progress” grade. If you click on the grade, you will be able to view the number of points you currently have on the next page. Students should still be striving for a high AR grade each 9 weeks. This will benefit the students at the end of the school year when the total number of points are due.
AR points on FACTS are updated each weekend.
There is not a grade for AR until the final report card for the school year. However, to participate in extracurricular activities students must meet certain requirements.
